
About the Studio
Founded in April 2024, Hive Studio is nestled in the historic town of Stephens City, Virginia and is easily accessible to Winchester and surrounding areas.

We offer a variety of fine art classes for all ages and abilities, designed to build lasting skills. Our curriculum is rooted in principles of art and design with an emphasis in art history.
Hive Studio also features a gallery space to showcase the work of local artists and encourage creativity within our community for a vibrant, growing arts scene.
About the Artist
Rachel Crockett Smith is Hive Studio's founder and instructor.

An active artist, Rachel has exhibited in over 70 shows in 14 states, with notable local venues including the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley, Barns of Rose Hill, and Burwell-Morgan Mill. In 2021, she became the first artist-in-residence for the Peter Bullough Foundation in Winchester.
Rachel is deeply committed to nurturing emerging talent, with over 18 years of experience teaching children and teens. She discovered her passion for art education during her residency at the Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum, where she began leading art workshops in 2018. Additionally, she spearheads a visiting artist program through The Shenandoah Art Council, creating paid teaching opportunities for local artists. In recognition of her contributions to art education, Rachel was awarded the Innovate + Create Grant from Teaching Artists of the Mid-Atlantic in 2022.

Originally from Phoenix, Arizona, Rachel has called Virginia home since 2010. She resides in the Winchester area with her husband, four daughters, and two dogs.
